School of Arts and Sciences
The Arts and Sciences Division at Wheelock College is the home to five academic departments: American Studies, Arts, Human Development, Humanities, and Math/Science. The liberal arts majors are key to our students' education. They constitute the intellectual foundation of our professional programs. By invoking the liberal arts at the core of the curriculum, Wheelock consciously links four central tenets: integration with the professions, integration of theory and practice, integration of disciplines, and preparation to serve in multidisciplinary ways. These tenets provide the common core of experiences and learning, creating an ideal basis for long-term professional success.
Wheelock's Arts and Sciences programs respond to the demands of today's world by producing analytical thinkers and effective communicators who can apply an outlook grounded in a historical perspective of current issues. Across the majors, we instill habits of inquiry and an enjoyment of learning that prepares students for a lifetime of thoughtful decision making.
Learning in the liberal arts provides you with a set of experiences and values that transcend the classroom. You will develop skills and knowledge that are always relevant. It also provides a greater understanding of the world around us, and, with it, a solid sense of our place and purpose in it.
