Wheelock is a private college with the public mission of improving the lives of children and families. Lucy Wheelock founded the college in 1888 with a powerful and simple charge: "Plant in the land of children whatever you wish to put into the life of our times." Today, Wheelock College is one of the premier institutions in the country preparing students for work in Education, Social Work, Child and Family Studies and the Human Services fields. The Wheelock community extends from the Boston Campus into classrooms and communities across the nation and around the globe.

Field experience is at the heart of a Wheelock education. In addition to an excellent classroom experience, students gain knowledge through extensive work in the community. Small class sizes put students in direct contact with Wheelock’s extraordinary faculty, most of whom are also practitioners in their fields. As a result, Wheelock students graduate well prepared to take on the many challenges of an ever changing world.
