Wooden Dialogues: Woodcuts/Prints
February 5-March 1, 2008
Wooden Dialogues, is an exhibition of works by Jennifer Erin Hughes and Gloria Calderon-Saenz, two Boston area artists, that combine the art of woodcuts, woodcut prints and mixed media to create visually layered, intimate and extremely personal works.
“My paintings are wooden pages of a manuscript of life. Through layers of colors and successive carvings, I document desires, emotions, and I transform my experiences into objects of contemplation. I use wood for printing and painting and I love the fact that wood is a living structure. Wood connects me with the earth and it is associated with warmth and moral reassurance”. –Gloria Calderon-Saenz
“My prints reference hands, not as an act of placidly surrendering, but of giving oneself to a higher force (whatever that force may be) and not feeling that every thing, every little detail, has to be controlled. Happy mistakes, kismet, fate….in my life and in my art, I try to recognize those occurrences and allow them to lead my creativity.” –Jennifer Erin Hughes
Reception: Saturday, February 9, 2-4 p.m.
Gallery Closed: Saturday February 16th

Birds, oil paintings and works on paper by local artist, Resa

Blatman was educated locally, she holds an MFA from Boston University. Her work has been shown at several galleries including Soprofina Gallery, The Sherman Gallery and C Duell Arts, to name only a few. Her work is included in many private collections and can be seen in the Lending Artists program at the Decordova Museum.
