Meet the Coach
Bryan Mahoney
email: bmahoney@wheelock.edu
In July, Bryan Mahoney was named as the first head coach of the newly formed Wheelock College men’s and women’s cross country teams. Prior to his arrival, Mahoney served as an assistant indoor and outdoor track and field coach at Fairfield College Preparatory School in Connecticut and as a volunteer assistant cross country coach at his alma mater, Fairfield University.
As an athlete at Fairfield, Mahoney finished his career as one of the top runners in school history. A three-time Most Valuable Runner selection, he owns two of the 20 fastest times ever run by a Stag runner at the famed Van Cortlandt Park Course in New York. He also holds the distinction of being one of the few runners to finish a season as the team’s top runner in every race, accomplishing the feat twice during his sophomore and senior campaigns. The 2001 Hartford University Invitational Individual Champion, Mahoney medaled in eight races during his collegiate campaign, including a second place effort during the 2002 Fairfield Invitational to lead the Stags to their first home invite championship since 1997. Voted team captain during his junior and senior years, Mahoney also earned a spot on the Metro Atlantic Conference All-Academic team from 2002-2004.
