THE AREA
Before beginning your housing search, it helps to understand the area. Wheelock is located in the Fenway/Kenmore section of Boston. More specifically, the school is in the Longwood Medical Area, also known as the Hospital District. Many students live in either this immediate area, downtown Boston or in the neighboring towns of Brookline and Allston. Other large student communities exist in Cambridge, Somerville and Brighton. The most popular form of public transportation in the Boston area is the subway, known as the T. Wheelock is located on the Green Line, D train, between the Fenway and Longwood stops.
ON-CAMPUS HOUSING
Wheelock offers on-campus housing for graduate students. All students interested in living on-campus must submit an Application for On-Campus Housing with a $100.00 deposit. Rooms in the graduate residence hall are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Download a copy of the housing application in .pdf.

OFF-CAMPUS HOUSING
For students moving to the Boston area, we encourage you to secure housing early. For those opting to live off-campus, we suggest you look at apartment listings online or contact a local real estate agent.
There are an unlimited number of realtors in the Boston area. You can make an appointment with them and tour the rental properties available on their listings. Average rents in the area can range from $700 to $1,100 for a studio apartment, $800 to $1,300 for a one bedroom apartment and $1,200 and up for a two bedroom apartment.

ROOMMATES
You may want to place and/or respond to an advertisement for a roommate or apartment in the local city and school newspapers. Two good places to start are http://realestate.boston.com/apartments and http://www.bostonapartments.com. Wheelock bulletin boards, as well as those at other schools, have "wanted" fliers advertising roommate or apartment options.
There are also several services in town which, for a fee, will match you with a list of potential roommates. You will specify criteria (ex., 30-year-old professional female who likes cats...) and receive a list with phone numbers and profiles of those who may be a match. These services can be found in the Yellow Pages and in newspaper advertising.
Remember - it is a good idea to meet with all potential roommates in person and see the housing arrangements prior to making a decision.
LIVING WITH A FAMILY
Wheelock graduate students may be able to arrange room and board in exchange for child care, elder care or cleaning. One agency matching students with families is The Student Housing Exchange at (617) 926-4800. Wheelock is in no way associated with this program.
