Bridges to Hope and Understanding: Exploring Truth and Reconciliation

A Special Visit with Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu at Wheelock College October 28 & 29, 2007

A Conversation with the Youth of Boston

On October 29th 350 middle and high school students from Boston gathered at Wheelock College for a once-in-a-lifetime symposium to discuss the condition of their communities, what is causing the recent rise in homicides and how—as a community—we can turn the tide of violence toward reconciliation and understanding.

Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu and Governor Deval Patrick joined the students in dialogue, and the Rev. Liz Walker moderated the event.

During the 90-minute symposium the Paige Academy Drummers and the Renaissance Charter School Choir performed, Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu, introduced by Patrick and Walker, delivered an address and participants from different Boston schools held a panel discussion. The focus of the discussion was personal interpretations of  truth and reconciliation, the impact of those concepts on individuals and communities and what needs to be accomplished to bridge the gap between where we are today and where we want to be as a community.
